Due to higher than anticipated demand on the backup system creating high I/O usage, the backup system is currently running significantly behind in its processing.

As a result, scheduled backups may not have occurred at their regularly scheduled time, resulting in the most recent customer backups being older than they should be.

We are actively working on this issue and processing backups as fast as possible; we're also changing our backup process to significantly reduce the I/O overhead to maximise the number we can process in a given time period.

We remind all customers that our backups are made available on a best-effort basis and again strongly encourage all customers to ensure their own backup systems are in place and tested.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused during this time and rest assured we're working on it as a priority.

UPDATE 2010-08-23: Along with fine-tuning we have switched to using the qpress file compressor (instead of gzip) which consumes substantially less CPU while compressing. This has resulted in backups being processed as scheduled.
