This is the second in a series of scheduled maintenance windows to upgrade our Xen virtualization system from v3.0 to v3.4.

Rather than have an outage for the duration of the Xen upgrade, we will instead be moving customers to a host system that has already been upgraded. Customers hosted on vps2 shall be moved to vps1; customers on vps4 shall then be moved to vps2 after its Xen upgrade is complete.

The outage shall consist of shutting down your VPS, moving the Xen configuration files to its new host, and then restarting your VPS. As your VPS is stored on a SAN there is no need for your virtual hard disk to be copied.

This will be carried out one VPS at a time using an automated tool during the two hour maintenance window. Expected downtime for each individual VPS is less than five minutes.

UPDATE 0130: Moving VPS is taking longer than expected; VPS currently located on vps4 are expected to be moved between 0330 and 0430. Individual expected downtime is still less than 5 minutes.

UPDATE 0210: All VPS have been moved from vps2 to vps1. We will now begin the Xen upgrade on vps2.

UPDATE 0325: Xen upgrade on vps2 is complete. We will now begin moving customers from vps4 to vps2.

UPDATE 0515: We have finished moving customers to vps2 - upgrade is now complete.
