Operating SystemsOur VPS are fully automated installations of various Linux distributions or Windows 2008. Linux We currently provide the latest versions of CentOS, Debian, Fedora, and Ubuntu in both 32- and 64- bit varieties. Customers are provided with access to an account with username "vps" that has full sudo access - this is a more secure means of providing root access than by logging in directly as root. However, customers may choose to re-enable the root login if they wish by running "sudo passwd root". Our Linux installations are extremely minimal, taking up around 100MB of data. This does however mean that many commands that you may be familiar with are not installed by default. Any commands you need can be installed using yum (CentOS and Fedora) or apt-get (Debian and Ubuntu). The preferred method of access is by installing an SSH client on your desktop. Alternatively you may use the Web SSH features within mPanel or the Rescue Console. Windows Windows 2008 Server Standard Edition is available in both 32- and 64-bit varieties. The installation comes pre-patched with Service Pack 2. The operating system is fully licensed under the terms of Microsoft's SPLA (Service Provider Licensing Agreement); unfortunately you may not "bring your own" license. Customers are provided with access to the standard "Administrator" account. The preferred method of access is by using a Remote Desktop client. Alternatively you may use the Rescue Console from within mPanel.
